US Mobile Media Biz On a High
28 March 2008The US mobile media and entertainment market is poised for solid growth.
In a new report “Mobile Media and Entertainment in the US: Forecasts 2007-2012″ from Research and Markets, the study’s principal analyst Katrina Bond predicts that the market will more than double in size from $3.1 billion in 2007 to $6.8 billion in 2012.
Bond sees mobile media turning into a key revenue stream for operators and content providers, particularly from 2010 onward.
“However, the US MME market still faces a number of significant barriers in the short term, including high pricing for end users, operator uncertainty over the optimal business model for the various services, and users’ disappointment with early MME services as a result of device and network constraints,” writes Bond.
The report argues that US mobile service providers are looking to data services to drive revenue growth, and mobile media and entertainment will be a critical part of this strategy.
The mobile media and entertainment market in the US is said to be developing rapidly with end users and service and content providers moving from basic personalization services to more-sophisticated services that leverage the upgraded network and handset capabilities.
“Mobile Media and Entertainment in the US: Forecasts 2007-2012″ examines the drivers for and barriers to US MME market growth. Besides the overall market for MME services and the market for mobile Web browsing and data access, the study also looks at seven specific service categories: personalization, music, games, TV and VoD, paid information services, adult content and social networking and user-generated content.
