Verizon Wireless, AT&T Offer Same Wireless Broadband Speeds, Same Flat Rate Mobile Phone Plans

22 February 2008

Perhaps Verizon Wireless and AT&T have outsourced the pricing of their wireless broadband and flat rate cellular phone rates to the same outfit.

Verizon Wireless, like AT&T, offers two wireless broadband plans; both with average download speeds from 0.6 Mbps-1.4 Mbps and average upload speeds from 0.5 Mbps-0.8 Mbps.

At the optimal speed a subscriber could download a 1 MB e-mail attachment in about eight seconds and upload it in about 13 seconds. There are two pricing options: 50 MB data usage for $39.99 a month or 5 GB data usage for $59.99 monthly.

Verizon Wireless and AT&T within hours of each other on Tuesday announced flat rate mobile phone plans - and both for $99 a month Verizon subscribers can call anyone in the US at any time. AT&T will charge $99.99, with the plan available on all devices except smart phones, personal digital assistants and the Apple iPhone. Roaming charges are being eliminated.

Later in the day, T-Mobile followed suit with a $99 a month plan for unlimited calls and messaging starting February 21. Surely Sprint will follow as the lamb did Mary.
