Mobile Phone Sales Reach $11.5B in 2007
22 February 2008Mobile phone sales to consumers reached 146 million units in the US last year with total sales hitting $11.5 billion after promotions and rebates, according to The NPD Group.
Smartphones showed a growth in handset sales, accounting for 6% in Q4 of 2006, but reaching 12% in Q4 2007.
Music enabled phones went from 34% to 48% and mobiles with removable memory went from 22% to 33% in the same time period.

“Last year’s introduction of the iPhone established a new level for matching functionality with fashion. In 2008, the handset industry is rising to the opportunity of higher-speed networks with devices that feature enhanced input methods and larger screens. These handsets will set the stage for the best wireless Web and media experiences that consumers have ever had,” said NPD Group director of industry analysis Ross Rubin.
