India Muscles Out US for the Number Two Spot in the 2008 Mobile Market

India is the fastest growing wireless market in the world, with a subscriber base expected to grow by 128.8% from 2007 to 2010, according to a new report from Research and Markets.

The IE Market Research report - 1Q08 Mobile Forecast: India, 2007-2010 - projects India will reach 526.8 million subscribers by 2010, pushing it past US market expectations and keeping it behind only China’s market.

The major four operators in the country are expected to keep their current market shares: Bharti-Airtel (24%), Reliance (19%), Hutchison (17%) and BSNL (15%).
