Excellent Audiovisual Quality Is #1 In Mobile TV Demands

1 February 2008

“Excellent audiovisual quality” tops the charts for key features wanted by US and Western Europe mobile TV users according to a new Strategy Analytics Wireless Media Lab report on buyer behavior.

The report “Strategy Analytics: Intuitive Menu and On-Screen Guide Essential for Mobile TV” found that the number two most desired feature for Western Europe was reliability of coverage (#3 for the US) and for the US number two was that the menus and program guides are easy to operate (#3 for W. Europe).

Paul Brown, senior user experience analyst at Strategy Analytics, said, “An intuitive menu and simple on screen guide are critical to the consumption experience for first generation mobile TV users.”

However, in Italy, which has the most established mobile TV market in Western Europe, users placed much higher value on more enhanced features such as pausing and recording live TV. Perhaps having such a strong market means that video quality and coverage are necessities for a business to survive instead of being items on a user’s wish list. The market in Italy could be showing the future demands of other Europeans and of Americans when their markets catch up.
