China’s Mobile Market Nears 540m Consumers

By the end of November 2007, China had 539.4 million mobile subscribers. China’s market is growing by an average of about 1.5% a month, with a total 18.5% growth last year, according to China’s Ministry of Information Industry. Chinese users sent 51.3 billion text messages in November, an average of over three per user per day.

Nearly 40% of the country’s population subscribes to a mobile service, impressively higher than the nearly 29% with a fixed telephone line.

China boasts 106.6 million broadband subscribers, 51 million with xDSL and 65.6 million with an aggregate connection.
