Barcodes on Mobiles, Mt Bachelor and RocketBux Scan So Nice
4 January 2008RocketBux, a mobile software company, and Mt Bachelor, one of the largest ski resorts in North America, have announced that RocketBux is providing mobile phone barcode coupons for the resort. This is the first use of a standardized barcode on mobile phones used by the public.
Through RocketBux’s technology, Mt Bachelor is offering daily SMS alerts to those desiring snow conditions. Now, coupons are being sent to mobile phones, where the barcode is displayed on the cell’s screen and then scanned with the standard barcode wands Mt Bachelor already had in use.
“It’s a way for us to deliver a more convenient, eco-friendly coupon to our guests. Plus it’s an opt-in program so there’s no spam,” said Frankie Labbé, communications manager for Mt Bachelor.
“This is a killer app for the mobile phone and finally provides a compelling, practical reason to access the Web on the phone,” says Fred Boos, president of RocketBux.
The first mobile barcode coupons are redeemable at Mt Bachelor. Additional coupons for Bend, Oregon, merchants are in the works.
