Nokia Launches UK nTunes, er, Nokia Music Store
4 November 2007Nokia, which makes more mobile phones than anyone else - almost 40% of the worldwide total in the most recent fiscal quarter, is determined to become a major supplier of products and services to users of wireless networks.
On November 1, Nokia’s UK Music Store opened. At launch, the store offered millions of tracks from major artists, independent labels and up-and-coming UK acts.
With a single account, users can access the Nokia Music Store via their desktop computer or directly from optimized Nokia devices beginning with the Nokia N81 and Nokia N95 8GB, both of which went on sale at the beginning of November.
Individual tracks go for 80 pence ($1.60), albums from £8 ($16).
Users can create customized playlists and add tunes to a “wish list” for purchasing later.
Tracks purchased and downloaded to a PC can be copied to compatible Nokia devices.
Interactive features include music browsing, personal track recommendations and a favorite artists’ search function.
There’s an £8 ($16) monthly subscription fee for PC streaming, but not for streaming to handsets.
“The Nokia Music Store offers great usability along with a huge selection of music,” said Richard Sandford, regional manager of Nokia Music UK & Ireland. “By having an integrated mobile and PC download service, the Nokia Music Store is a fantastic way to build a music collection that is truly mobile.”
